Why Study Aboard?
More than ever before, we live in a globalised world. Earning your degree overseas can have huge benefits for your career and personal development. Here are just a few of the advantages of choosing international study.
1. Start your career off on the right footGraduates who’ve chosen to study internationally are highly sought after by employers.
Pursuing a degree overseas signals to employers that you have courage, flexibility, cultural awareness and an understanding of how other people work and think. This will really put you ahead of the pack when it comes to internships and job applications.
2. From learning a language to living a languageStudies have shown that being surrounded by a language is the best way to become fluent and to understand the local culture.
You'll be surrounded by English language speakers every day and seeing and hearing the language in the local cultural context.
Living, studying and working in English can be challenging at first, but you’ll be surprised at how quickly it becomes second nature. Communicating confidently in English will help you to excel in your studies and meet new friends from other parts of the world who could even become professional connections down the road.
3. Diverse choice of coursesExpanding your options to consider overseas study opens up a world of new educational opportunities,we can help find the best fit for you.
Students who come to study in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK or the USA with IDP often comment on how much they enjoy the diverse teaching styles. Some courses and modules may be traditional class-based, others may involve a lot of teamwork while others will include a lot of work experience. Think about what would suit you best and we’ll take this into consideration while researching course options with you.
4. Grow and develop personally Students who study overseas return home with an informed and much less biased perspective towards other cultures and peoples.
Whether you’re studying science, politics or finance, being able to think from a multinational perspective will help you face modern challenges and come up with innovative solutions.
As an international student, you will graduate with a more diverse set of experiences than many domestic students in your home country that will allow you to think more openly and creatively. As you learn to view the world through different lenses, you’ll also learn new things about your own country and culture.
5. Stories to last a lifetimeYour international study experience doesn’t end at the campus gates.
During weekends and holidays, you’ll have the chance to travel to tourist hotspots or get off the beaten track in your chosen country. Make sure to save some mementos, such as train tickets and photographs, and keep a record of your adventures, because you might not realise how incredible your time was until you’re home. Maybe one day in the future you’ll be the one giving advice to your siblings – and even your own children – about why and where to study abroad!

4. Accepting your offer
Once the university or school receives your application it will be assessed and you will be notified of the result. It can take a few weeks (or longer for postgraduate courses) for your application to be processed. If your application is successful, you’ll receive a letter of offer and an acceptance form. Before accepting your offer, your counsellor will read it carefully through with you and check any conditions that may apply. If you are accepted for more than one course or school, we'll help you decide which option is best for you.
5. Practice your English skills
It’s always a good idea to brush up your English skills to ensure you can keep up with what your lecturers are saying, especially if English is not your first language. Surround yourself with the language, and it will eventually become natural to you.
6. Student visa
Now that you have been accepted, it’s time to apply for your student visa. IDP can provide you with some information to help make sure you are well positioned to navigate this process with the authorized migration departments.
7. Ready, steady, go
Congratulations! You’re off on a huge adventure. There are lots of things to think about during this time and your IDP counsellor will help out along the way with advice on matters such as exchanging money, insurance, SIM cards and opening a bank account.
